New York State Commission on Higher Education:
The Council reviewed the preliminary report issued by the NYS Commission on Higher Education in light of initiatives underway in SUNY.  There was consensus that the report contains many positive suggestions for improving the quality of education in New York State.

Chair’s Workshop debriefing:
The Council reviewed evaluations of the recent Chair’s Workshop held at the Phoenix (N.Y.) Education Center. A number of suggestions for improvements and additional workshops were put forward.  In addition, chairs expressed satisfaction at progress being made in a number of areas related to academic goals.  There will be a follow-up at the joint chairs meeting.

Metro Center Update:
The Council will hold its February 27th meeting at the new SUNY Oswego Metro Center in Syracuse to tour the facility and receive an update on Metro Center program planning.

Calendar Committee:
Associate Provost Rameen Mohammadi will assemble a committee to review the college calendar.  The committee will include representatives of all offices and departments on campus whose programs and operations impact calendar planning.

ACALOG:
The Council discussed a new online catalog service the College is considering adopting.  ACALOG would help create the official college catalog.  The printing of paper copies would be limited.  This system is being used successfully by other campuses in SUNY including SUNY Cortland. More information will be forthcoming at chairs meetings.  Deans will schedule a time for presentations by Rameen Mohammadi, Andrew Westfall and Sue Fettes.

Academic Participation in Orientation:
Orientation Coordinator Nate Emmons wishes to include more academic affairs materials in Orientation programs.  Deans will encourage department chairs to help Emmons pilot a new approach to summer orientation.
