Joint Chairs Meeting review:
The Council discussed a number of suggestions and ideas proposed by department chairs at the Joint Chairs Meeting held February 26th in the Forum.  We hope to follow up on many of them.  As a direct result of the meeting one suggestion, that the campus-wide faculty committee structure be reviewed for possible streamlining, is underway.  Faculty Assembly Chair Susan Camp will work with Mike Ameigh and others to try to develop a way to lessen the number of committees that faculty need to staff.

Another suggestion, that chairs and department secretaries be afforded regular opportunities to learn about academic administrative processes and procedures, is also in development.  The annual Secretaries Breakfast, held in January, will be expanded to include similar events throughout the year and summer. Department secretaries are being canvassed to identify particular topics recommended for inclusion in these programs.

Instructional Technology Support:
The Council discussed the need for professional technology support positions that would be to be assigned to special support needs in the future.  Deans and directors will discuss their requests for such positions at Provost’s Council.  From these discussions a strategy will be devised in collaboration with Campus Technology Services.  Susan has been discussing this issue with Chief Technology Officer Joseph Moreau.
