Transfer Student Early Registration: Christopher Hockey, Transfer Coordinator, and Nathan Emmons, Coordinator of Orientation Programs, presented a proposal to establish an early transfer student registration process. This would allow transfer students who commit to SUNY Oswego by paid deposit on or before April 1st access to course registration on a par with full-time matriculated resident students. The Office of Admissions, Registrar and the Transfer Advisory Council support this initiative. The Council expressed its support as well.
Retention Taskforce: Susan reported that Faculty Assembly is creating a retention taskforce to review data and examine procedures relating to retention of students, primarily at the sophomore level. This taskforce will include elected and appointed representatives of each unit in Academic Affairs. The Council announced that designees from the three schools include Jody Fiorini, School of Education; Paloma Jalife, School of Business; David Bozak, College of Arts and Sciences.
Media Summit: Jerry Condra, Lewis B. O’Donnell Media Summit (formerly Borrelli Media Summit) Coordinator, and Fritz Messere, chair of Communication Studies, will visit academic departments to encourage broader participation and solicit input for planning future events. The Media Summit has been a highlight of the academic year, attracting nationally prominent media personalities, journalists and experts to the campus to discuss timely issues related to media.
Announcements: The Metro Center lease has been approved. The new facility, located in downtown Syracuse, will serve as a classroom and event space for college programs and initiatives, expanding access to SUNY Oswego for residents of the greater Syracuse metropolitan area.
