Civic Engagement: On January 31st students nationwide are planning to participate in workshops and panels to talk about global warming solutions through a program called ‘Focus the Nation.’ Faculty are encouraged to devote 10 minutes on that day to the topic of global warming. For information contact Thad Mantaro, director of the Civic Engagement Coalition.
Sustainability: The Climate Academic Steering Committee met for the first time on Tuesday. Tom Kubicki, Technology Education, was elected chair. The committee will assess the current curriculum to determine which programs and courses focus on issues relevant to global warming and will work to develop strategies for infusing climate topics across the curriculum. The committee will report its ongoing progress to the Provost on a regular basis.
Quest: Susan is preparing a memo to the campus regarding the Quest Day format for 2008. Classes will be canceled on Wednesday, April 23rd so that all faculty and staff can attend sessions in which faculty and students will present their research. She reiterated that Quest Day is not a ‘day off,’ but rather an opportunity for the academic community – faculty and students – to celebrate research and creative activity as the core mission of the college.
Chair’s Retreat: Planning is underway for a Chairs’ Retreat on Tuesday, January 22nd. Rameen, Cathy, Richard and Linda will lead the planning. More information will be forthcoming.
