Provost's Council
Meeting Minutes for October 31, 2007

Attending: Susan Coultrap-McQuin (presiding), Michael Ameigh (recording). David Clendinning, David King, Linda Rae Markert, Rhonda Mandel, Rameen Mohammadi, Cathy Santos, Yvonne Petrella.  Pat McNeil, Julie Blissert from Office of Public Affairs.

Weather policy:

Julie Blissert, Director of the Office of Public Affairs, briefed the Council on College policy regarding dissemination of information on weather-related course and event cancellations. A number of suggestions were proposed for distributing the policy statement to faculty, staff and students in ways that will maximize awareness.

Campus website:

Julie introduced Pat McNeill, new campus website coordinator.  A discussion ensued in which members raised a number of issues related to the current configuration and operation of the campus website.  Pat thanked the Council for sharing ideas that she said will be considered as the website continues to evolve.

Communication within Academic Affairs:

The Council discussed ways that information discussed in the Council can be more effectively communicated to faculty and staff.  One immediate enhancement will be the addition of the Chair of Faculty Assembly to the list of individuals who receive electronic copies of Council minutes.  A reminder that all Council minutes are available for download at:

Announcements:

  • Planning is underway for SummerSession 2008.  The Office of Continuing Education, Summer/WinterSessions and Distance Learning will confer with department chairs in the weeks ahead to identify course offerings and other summer program ventures.
  • The search committee for Dean of the School of Business has identified finalists.  Campus interviews will be announced shortly.
  • The recent Graduate Fair had a strong turnout.  David King, Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, is working with departments to follow up.
