The Council welcomed Fritz Messere, Interim Dean of the new School of Communication, Media and the Arts.
Criteria for Faculty Personnel Decisions:
The Council reviewed the Criteria for Personnel Decisions in preparation for tenure and promotion reviews scheduled for later in the spring term. Deans will continue to discuss these criteria with their faculties and chairs. Chairs and Personnel Committees should write evaluations in relation to the five criteria.
Annual goals:
The Council reviewed progress on annual goals during the fall term. Successes include:
- Additional departmental advisors are in place to assist students interested in study abroad.
- Progress is being made on the establishment of learning outcomes in concert with Faculty Assembly. Academic Policies Council is currently deliberating on learning outcome proposals sent forward during the fall term.
- Faculty Assembly will appoint members to a retention taskforce called for in another goal for the year.
- The campus sustainability initiative is underway. Academic Affairs has established the Climate Academic Steering Committee which is meeting and will report on its activity by the end of the current term.
- The College has received a grant to establish a Center for Energy Education and Economic Development. A Energy Institute is planned for summer, 2008.
- The SUNY Oswego Metro Center is ready to open later this year. A director will be hired shortly.
- We have had good involvement in civic engagement, but we need to encourage more service learning. Deans will schedule presentations.
