Faculty Activity Report: Mehran Nojan, Director of Institutional Research and Assessment, presented a live demonstration of the latest revisions to the online faculty activity report form maintained by that office. The Council proposed a number of changes to add functionality and enhance existing features. Mehran will visit department chairs meetings in the near future to inform them of revisions made.
Annual Goals: Susan indicated she recently presented the draft list of annual goals for 2006-2007 to Priorities and Planning Council where it was well received. The goals were developed from discussions at the Academic Affairs Council retreat on August 23rd. Following a final review the Provost's Council approved the goals and objectives document as revised for distribution to units and academic departments.
Retention: The Council continued its discussion of retention. This issue will be a focus of ongoing discussions aimed at improving retention of first-year students. Associate Provost Rhonda Mandel indicated data flowing from various survey instruments are beginning to point to certain variables that tend to affect retention of underclassmen and women. A campus-wide retention taskforce will soon be formed.
Promotion and Tenure Workshop: A workshop by deans and the Provost will focus on assisting faculty in preparing for tenure reviews and/or promotion. This event has been scheduled for September 21st. The Council discussed elements for possible inclusion on the agenda and worked on refining the format employed last year.
Curriculum Innovation Grants: The Provost asked the Council to review proposed revisions to the Curriculum Innovation Grant guidelines intended to address the institutional priority to more effectively internationalize the curriculum. This issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the Council.
