Minutes for May 16, 2007

External Grant guidelines: The Council approved the Guidelines for External Grants as revised after consultations with faculty, staff, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), and other stakeholders.  The new guidelines have been posted to the ORSP website at:

Synnex Contact Center: Nancy Bellow, Director, Center for Community and Business Development, discussed a proposal to lease space in Hewitt Union for Synnex Corporation, a global information technology supply chain services company that proposes to hire up to 200 students to provide assistance to its customers via telephone and the Internet.  The company will pay students at a rate comparable to that of other on-campus employers.  The arrangement could be terminated at any time by either the college or Synnex.  Discussions between the college and Synnex are ongoing.

Professional Development proposal: The Council discussed a document containing recommendations by the Faculty Assembly Task Force on Professional Development at SUNY Oswego.  The recommendations focus on a variety of issues including proposed functions, organizational structure and physical space needs.  Susan thanked the taskforce for its good work and indicated the discussion will continue into the summer.

Announcements and updates:

-The Middle States accreditation five-year report has entered the final edit stage.  The document is to be submitted by June 1st.

-Preparation and submission of purchase requisitions is moving to an online system.  The Purchasing Office will hold a series of training sessions for department secretaries and others wishing to be trained in this system during the month of June.

-SUNY is now requiring that all faculty and staff have original copies of transcripts of their last degree on file in the Office of Human Resources. Individuals whose transcripts are not currently on file will be notified of this requirement and asked to request transcripts to be forwarded to that office.

-Registration for summer courses is underway. The summer course offering schedule has been modified this year to encourage fuller enrollment in courses that tend to attract students from year to year.
