Provost's Council Minutes
Provost's Council
Minutes for April 25, 2007

Attending: Susan Coultrap-McQuin (presiding); Michael Ameigh (recording).  Mary Beth Bell, David King, Rhonda Mandel, Linda Rae Markert, Rameen Mohammadi.

Angel Implementation:
A group has been working on devising a plan to provide training for faculty and staff interested in using the Angel learning management system for web-enhanced as well as hybrid and online course presentations. Angel is replacing the Lotus Notes system.  Workshops to assist faculty teaching online courses as they transition from Lotus Notes to Angel are underway.

Technical Support Positions in Academic Affairs:
The Council discussed the current configuration of technology support positions in Academic Affairs units. Susan asked the Council to envision how such positions should be structured going forward in order to meet the needs of planned and/or proposed curricular changes.  Currently a number of support positions shared between Academic Affairs and Campus Technology Services are serving the needs of individual units.

Nominations for U.S. Professors of the Year:
Susan indicated that faculty nominated for teaching and research awards are often eligible to be nominated for distinguished national awards as well.  One such award is U.S. Professors of the Year, given annually by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.  Nominations are due in April of each year.  Nominations by faculty and staff are encouraged. For more information, contact Assistant Provost Michael Ameigh at ameigh@oswego.edu.
