Student Opinion Survey: The Council continued its discussion of the most recent Student Opinion Survey. Data reviewed was categorized by student level – Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors – in order to draw comparisons in responses among the classes. A number of issues were identified for future discussion by department chairs and their faculty.
Mileage Policy: The Council considered guidelines on reimbursement of faculty for mileage to teach courses. Personnel Policies Council, UUP, and President’s Council will be consulted on the draft.
Update on Class Size Caps: The Council continued its review of progress across the units toward capping more lower division courses at 19 students. This discussion will continue at a later date with additional input from the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.
Announcements: -Career Assistance for Partners: A website for the Upstate New York Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (UNY-HERC) will become active shortly. The site will display information about academic employment opportunities at more than 20 colleges and universities in the region for partners of employees and candidates for faculty and staff positions. -Adjunct searches: The Office of Human Resources is about to begin posting regular advertisements in regional media seeking applications for adjunct faculty positions. This effort is intended to assist academic departments by assembling pools of potential candidates for part-time teaching positions as they become available. -Interim Leave Policy: Susan asked the Council to review a draft policy under discussion in Student Affairs titled Interim Leave of Absence. This document would replace the current policy on Administrative Withdrawal by students. James Scharfenberger, Dean of Students, has requested comments on the draft from members of the campus community.
