Welcome to Rhonda Mandel and Rameen Mohammadi in their new roles as Interim Dean of Arts and Sciences and Acting Associate Provost, respectively.
Chair's Workshop: The Council reviewed the Annual Department Chairs workshop held January 23rd. The workshop focused on developing learning goals for all students who will graduate from SUNY Oswego. A working sub-group of chairs, program directors and administrators will synthesize the results for further action.
Immunization requirements for students: All students regardless of the number of enrolled credits are now required to have proof of immunizations. Course instructors will be notified when students enrolled in their classes are out of compliance, but no action will be required on the instructors' part. Students who fail to comply will be deregistered.
Academic Centers: Susan announced that guidelines for the establishment of academic research centers have been distributed to department chairs. These guidelines are posted to the Provost's website at: http://www.oswego.edu/administration/provost/arcg.html
NCATE: Linda Rae Markert announced that the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) visitation team will be on campus November 3-7, 2007, to conduct its five-year review. She thanked all School of Education faculty who participated in the development of preliminary documentation for a job well done.
Festa Fellowships: David King announced the availability of $10,000 grants for full-time matriculated graduate students. Festa Fellowships, funded by a SUNY Oswego alumnus, are competitive. The Graduate Office is actively soliciting nominations from faculty.
Class size initiative: Susan asked the deans to report soon on the number of undergraduate courses with 19 or fewer students and those with more than 49 students as well as the total lecture and seminar courses. Her office is monitoring institutional progress toward lowering average class sizes.
Writing Across the Curriculum proposal: The Council discussed a taskforce recommendation to convene a committee that would address issues related to the Writing Across the Curriculum initiative. adjourned-
