Provost's Council
Minutes for May 10, 2006

Attending: Susan Coultrap-McQuin (presiding); Michael Ameigh (recording). Mary Beth Bell, David King, Lanny Karns, Rhonda Mandel, Linda Rae Markert, Yvonne Petrella, Sara Varhus.

Announcements and Updates:

The Provost indicated she is generally pleased with the Faculty Activity Report data collected from faculty using the new online reporting system maintained by the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.  This information will be included in the division's annual report.

Annual Reports from Academic Affairs units are due to the Provost June 1st.

Summer Projects:

The Council discussed a number of projects it plans to work on over the summer:

  • Developing ideas for improving retention

  • Evaluation of the this year's faculty search process

  • Possible revisions to the Provost's Memo on Promotion and Tenure

  • Assessment of academic programs

  • Potential Metro Center mission

Requests for new funding:

The Council developed and prioritized a list of resource needs not currently budgeted.  A list of potential criteria for setting priorities was proposed.  This discussion will continue in future meetings of the Council.

Adjunct and extra-service salary rates:

The Council discussed information relevant to the adjunct base salaries for three-credit course instruction.  A variety of data was presented relating to the number of sections taught by adjuncts and full-time faculty on extra service.
