Introductory remarks by the Provost:

Susan complimented the School of Business on its recent newsletter.  Dean Karns indicated that approximately 9,400 were sent to students, alumni and friends of the University.

The Provost would like to host a reception for faculty who have worked with or encouraged students engaged in scholarly and creative activities. She asked the Council to propose ideas for implementing such an event.

Oswego Symposium on Teaching and Learning:

Associate Provost Rhonda Mandel announced that Veronica Boix-Mansilla of Harvard University's Project Zero will be the keynote speaker for the 2006-2007 symposium to be held the last Friday in September.  The format for the event is being revised and planning is underway to extend the time available to faculty for poster sessions. More information will be forthcoming as the event nears.

Program Planning for 2011:

Ongoing discussion regarding possible new/enhanced academic programs was resumed.  A number of possibilities were presented.  A focus of the discussion was on programs that would meet regional workforce needs.  The Council concluded that a number of pre-existing programs can serve as good foundations for programs frequently mentioned by prospective students in one-on-one meetings at college fairs and in campus visits.

Middle States request (handout):

The Provost asked the Council to suggest a number of institutional challenges and opportunities in response to a request for feedback recently received from Middle States Committee.  A number of ideas were proposed.  A summary of the discussion will be prepared and submitted to our campus committee.

Budget Planning:

During coming weeks the Provost's Office will begin the process of formulating funding allocations to units for 2006-07.  Council members were asked to think about T-S requests for future discussion.
