Two-year rolling schedules:
The Council discussed issues related to planning rolling two-year course schedules. It was suggested this could be useful to students in managing degree completion schedules and to academic departments for managing coverage of courses to meet general education, major, and service commitments. A number of ideas were put forward. We will ask departments to prepare the schedules for their planning and advising purposes.
Distance Learning:
Yvonne Petrella, Director of Continuing Education, Summer Sessions and Distance Learning, distributed several documents relating to distance learning and other CED program offerings. That office is developing a five-year plan that will address operational aspects of distance learning at Oswego, among other initiatives. The discussion focused on how distance learning fits into the overall Oswego academic enterprise. This discussion will continue.
Library Visioning Committee Interview of the Council:
The Provost led the interview of Council members on their thoughts regarding the future of Penfield Library. Brian McDonald, Library Visioning Committee member, served as recorder. The Committee has requested input from faculty, staff and students as it works to develop a plan for the library that will meet the needs of the campus in the year 2020.
