1 - Kevi McNeilly, graduate office manager, presented a list of tasks/responsibilities of that office to inform the discussion of the impending graduate dean search. A discussion regarding graduate office operation ensued.
2 - Graduate dean position description discussion: discussion continued related to responsibilities, reporting relationships, and qualifications. A draft will be prepared.
3. Provost Reminders:
a. Provost has requested assistance from all deans and directors to meet with all academic units over the course of this academic year.
b. We will schedule focus group interview with COLT next week.
c. 04-05 budgets are being finalized, will be distributed to individual units shortly.
4. Professional Development annual goal: Provost asked all present to provide information about professional development activities in their areas: one list showing current professional development activities in the unit (not to include committee meetings); the other to show planned and/or related "wish list" activities in the unit. Both should include related available/required resources needed to implement those activities.
5. Council Member Announcements:
a. Library has begun soliciting faculty publications for inclusion in the annual display of the same in the main library concourse.
b. Bill Miller, Native-American songwriter and presenter, is on campus participating in classes and other events prior to his formal presentation ("Spirit Songs" on Friday evening. Tyler Art Gallery opening reception is Friday 5-7. All invited.
c. New Campus Technology Services web site consolidates five pre-existing sites related to technology services.
d. New Carnegie Foundation classification criteria standard have been published. Office of Institutional Research and Assessment is currently reviewing new benchmarks as they affect Oswego.
e. Chapter 219 federal education law requires that students with disabilities related to print materials are entitled to e-text or electronic versions of textbooks, other materials in future. Burden is on publishers. Three students have requested special services in the current semester.
