Hybrid courses (continued from last meeting)
The group discussed a variety of issues related to the potential adoption of hybrid courses (courses delivered partly online, partly in a classroom). Among issues discussed were how hybrid courses fit into the curriculum of a primarily undergraduate residential college; where responsibility should lie for planning and implementation of hybrid courses; how professional development and training fit into the mix; how such courses might affect the balance of the overall college curriculum.
A variety of ideas and suggested principles were presented by those present. A summary of the suggested principles will be the basis of up-coming discussions.
Professional Development:
The Council continued its discussion of a draft document that sets goals for professional development initiatives in Academic Affairs. Many groups including the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), deans, directors, department chairs and others provide professional development opportunities on campus. Revisions discussed will be incorporated into a final version of this document to be distributed soon.
Budget:
The Provost reiterated that unit budgets must be balanced in OTPS and TS. Account managers should discuss any problems they may foresee in balancing budgets with her or Mike.
She asked for feedback on a document outlining various assessments on budget accounts. There appeared to be consensus that the document is useful and should be distributed to chairs, department secretaries and others with budget responsibility when additional information is added.
