Minutes for December 1, 2004

Good News from academic divisions:

ORSP: Bike rodeo in June - $3,000 grant for University Police involving several local agencies.

Continuing Education: Winter session enrollment is improving. Web courses have been strong.

Graduate Studies: Graphics students will be working on developing Graduate Studies recruitment identity.

School of Education: More than 500 people attended  Technology's 65th annual conference

Penfield Library: Library to pilot a SUNY Union catalog; at least 45 campuses participating.

Institutional Research: Met with SOE regarding online faculty report; positive meeting.

Learning Support Services: Math tutoring is at an all-time high.

School of Business: Two faculty in accounting received award for a paper they wrote last Spring.

Associate Provost: Keynote speaker for Quest has been arranged.  Working on a teaching symposium for next academic year in conjunction with CELT.

Arts and Sciences: Art will have its accreditation visit this spring; good grants in Biology and Psychology; looking at bringing philosopher Martha Nussbaum to campus.

International Education: 12 students will take Biology 393 in Brazil (on the Amazon).

Provost: I am doing a short presentation for College Council on what's going on in Academic Affairs.  Deans will attend President's Council on December 6.

1 - Retreat on Academic Affairs goals and objectives: Date for retreat will be January 19th, 9-1 at the School of Business conference room in Rich Hall. The primary discussion topic will be Goals 6 and 7.  We discussed the data we should have for that retreat. 

2 - Faculty International Travel Grants (handout includes memo and application form):

We will discuss this proposed travel grant award process next time.

3 - Space:  Nick Lyons and Jerry DeSantis joined the meeting to update the Provost's Council and answer questions about upcoming moves and the campus plan.
