Susan Coultrap-McQuin (presiding), Michael Ameigh (recording), Rolando Arroyo-Sucre, Mary Loe (for Mary Beth Bell), Lanny Karns, Rhonda Mandel, Linda Rae Markert, Maria Nakamura, Mehran Nojan, Walter Opello, Yvonne Petrella, Mary Schoeler, Sara Varhus.

Announcements:

- Susan is enjoying visits to various academic departments.  Please make sure all departments schedule a visit with her over the next few months.

- Several additional department web sites are in process of migrating to new web system. Webmaster Drew Hill will have a formal report on progress for next meeting.

- Career Counseling is working with IR&A and Graduate Office to track professional progress of graduate students after they leave Oswego. This has not been done previously.

- Susan: Please have sabbatical requests ready by November 15th.

- Chair's workshop at Geneseo is NOT accepting new attendees.  We will look into partnering with other SUNY colleges to host a similar meeting later in the academic year.

1 - Discussion of contents of block search advertisement to be published in the Chronicle of Higher Education resumed (handout with proposed wording drafts was distributed).  Susan showed an example of a block ad that may serve as a model.  She asked that all search descriptions be transmitted to her by this Friday.  All postings will indicate review of applications to begin January 17, 2005.

Yvonne distributed Chamber of Commerce packets for review of contents. These may be helpful in orienting search candidates to the greater Oswego community.

2 - Scheduling classes next Fall and Spring:  A discussion was begun on the need to accommodate students in a smaller number of classrooms beginning in Fall 05 as campus construction projects close some spaces temporarily.  Suggestions:

- Have offices establish priorities on use of their proximate space in "prime time."

- Move lower priority sections to "off peak" times and/or underutilized spaces.

- A specific class time/location distribution model, perhaps mandated, would be helpful.

- Seek greater balance of M-W-F and T-Th classes.

Susan: As we learn exactly how many classrooms will be off-line, we need to adjust.  There will be classes in non-traditional meeting areas including residence halls, Hewitt Union, and Penfield Library.

3 - First year and small classes: Same number and mix of small classes for incoming students should be maintained for Fall 05 at same budget level.

4 - CELT space: A discussion of the various pros and cons of placing CELT in Penfield Library resumed.  A variety of ideas were floated.  Discussion will be ongoing.

5 - ORSP and Graduate Studies space discussion, now separate from CELT space discussion, was postponed as David King was unable to attend today.
