- Hybrid Courses: Susan announced that a task force will be assembled under the direction of the Faculty Assembly and with her support to develop recommendations regarding the best use of hybrid courses in the curriculum. Members were invited to join effort. Target dates for action are as follows: a document that lays out best practices in the use of hybrid courses to be drafted by February 15 forwarded to campus by March 15, with a recommendation from Faculty Assembly to the President by April 15. Provost’s Council can also make recommendations.
- Online Faculty Activity Database: Mehran indicated the number of users is about the same as last week, urged continued effort to bring more into the system.
- Budgets: Allocations for 2004-2005 for salaries and OTPS funds were distributed. Susan described the process used to meet needs within funding limits in PSR, Temporary Service and OTPS set by the Finance Office. She asked that any redistribution in OTPS and temporary service be requested by noon Thursday, October 21. Subsequent changes can be made by journal transfer, but only with the approval of the Provost. Also distributed were rosters showing actual staffing in each department. Please review all documents for accuracy.
- Searches: Susan announced that funds for search requests have been approved. Some search requests have been deferred as a result. Particulars were provided to deans. Tenure track searches should get underway immediately in order to maximize the quality of applicant pools. Please assemble search committees and arrange meetings with the affirmative action officer as soon as possible. We aim to have ads ready early in November.
- Mission Review II: Susan asked that any comments on the draft document of Mission Review II posted to the college website be conveyed to Howard Gordon or Doug Deal.
(Susan left for SUNY AVP meeting in Cooperstown, NY)
- Professional Development: Rhonda conducted a discussion on a variety of issues regarding professional development for faculty. A number of talking points are contained in a series of related handouts. This discussion will be ongoing.
