Fingerprinting

As of January 1st, 2010, the New York State University Police Department at SUNY Oswego will no longer be using fingerprint cards and ink to take fingerprints.  Criminal and Civil fingerprints will now be done using Livescan, a digital fingerprint scanning sytem.  Due to the specific software required, we will only be able to fingerprint persons for Teacher Certification.  We will not be able to fingerprint for general job applications, pistol permits or any non-teacher certification reason. 

In order to be fingerprinted for Teacher Certification you must already have completed the online fingerprint application, including payment through the New York State Education Department.  Paying by credit card is much faster.  For more information, and to create an online TEACH account go to: http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/teach/ .                                        

Once you have completed the online fingerprint application your online account should indicate that you are ready to be fingerprinted.

 The Fingerprint service is by appointment so be sure to call University Police (315-312-5555) in advance (at least a few days) to schedule an appointment.  You will need to bring photo ID and you will also need to provide us with your social security number so that we may access your fingerprint information.

There is a Twenty Dollar service fee, payable by cash or check, to University Police at the time the fingerprints are taken.  The twenty dollar ($20) fee is a separate fee and is not included in any costs associated with your application.
