The Office of International Education and Programs at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for an Education Abroad Program Specialist.

Review Date:  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.

Date of Appointment: March 1, 2013

Description of Responsibilities:  As an education abroad program specialist, this individual will be responsible primarily for the OIEP's programs in Australia, New Zealand, England & Ireland, with additional responsibilities.  The office currently offers nine programs abroad in Australia, four in New Zealand, three in England and four in Ireland.  These are strategically important, well-enrolled programs that together are a vital component of the OIEP's extensive portfolio of education abroad programs.  The specialist will engage in and be responsible for all aspects of program management, including recruiting/promotion, advising (both academic and personal), curricular support, international relations, and overseas coordination/communications.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the program specialist:

  • Recruit students for particular overseas academic programs;
  • Make on-campus class presentations to promote education abroad;
  • Recruit at off-campus recruiting events;
  • Advise and counsel students to help them select appropriate programs, resolve problems, and overall to provide excellent student services;
  • Respond to student inquiries via phone, electronic communication, and in person;
  • Help maintain student files and databases;
  • Communicate and coordinate consistently and professionally with education abroad contacts at partners overseas;
  • Assist with itineraries and act as host for visiting faculty and staff from overseas partners;
  • Develop advertising and recruiting strategies for education abroad programs on English-speaking programs;
  • Contribute to overall marketing and recruiting efforts, as assigned by the Associate Director for Study Abroad and Exchange Programs;
  • Visit overseas academic program sites as necessary;
  • Assist the Director to develop new overseas academic programs as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Personal experience of having studied abroad in Australia, New Zealand, England or Ireland with preference for Australia or England
  • Willingness to travel
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to international studies
  • Effective and grammatically-correct written communication skills
  • Team-oriented, public relations and oral presentation skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a college-age population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with on-campus recruiting and promotion of education abroad through class presentations, education abroad fairs, and working directly with student groups
  • Hands-on experience accompanying / leading student groups abroad
