Department of Intercollegiate Athletics
The State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics reporting to the Division of Student Affairs. The position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics is a twelve-month appointment. The start date is negotiable up to July 1, 2013.
Oswego State is a learner centered institution and is committed to student learning, particularly as it relates to academic excellence, personal growth and student athlete engagement in academic and campus life. The College, with a full time enrollment of 6700 undergraduates, presently supports 24 sports (12 women's; 12 men's) in the SUNY Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), an athlete academic support program, and a departmental program for student athlete community service.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have
- a Master's degree,
- five years of administrative experience in intercollegiate or professional athletics, including budget management, staff supervision, and facilities management.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should
- demonstrate broad knowledge of NCAA rules and familiarity with NCAA compliance procedures, and Division III student athlete philosophy
- demonstrate ability to interpret and apply rules and policies, including a student conduct code, with integrity,
- have experience with external fundraising, marketing and promotion,
- demonstrate a record of establishing and maintaining an excellent relationship with the local community and alumni,
- demonstrate leadership and communication skills and an ability to select and mentor coaches, and
- demonstrate ability to work closely with other institutional departments, particularly Intramurals and Recreation, Residence Life, Facilities Maintenance, the Intercollegiate Athletic Board, and faculty and staff
- have intercollegiate or professional athletic coaching experience
