Assistant Professor of Strategic & Organizational Communication

The Department of Communication Studies at the State University of New York College at Oswego invites applications from individuals with research and teaching interests in Strategic and Organizational Communication for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Description of Responsibilities: The appointed candidate will play a principal role in developing a new graduate curriculum in Strategic Communication, while also teaching advanced undergraduate courses. The candidate should specify in their application which areas, including but not limited to the following, they are capable of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level: communication theory, research methods, communication management, communication ethics, change management, communication strategies for the global economy, message design, global media systems, communication and leadership, collaboration in the digital organization, business communication, communication and workplace diversity, information management, strategic use of new media, and strategic health communication. Successful candidates for this position will also demonstrate a commitment to sustaining a program of original research and publication. Additional responsibilities will include academic advising, student mentoring, and participation in service activities.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a field related to Strategic and/or Organizational Communication. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to teach advanced undergraduate courses as well as professionally-oriented graduate courses.

Preferred Qualifications: At least 3 years of teaching experience in a tenure-track position with a record of peer-reviewed publications, and extensive professional experience as a communication practitioner. Successful record of grant writing and application. Demonstrated experience with innovative teaching approaches, online course delivery, internship coordination, and supervision of graduate students' theses. Ability to incorporate issues of gender, race/ethnicity, and/or comparative global perspectives into course materials, as well as interest in teaching a diverse population of students.

Description of the Department: Communication Studies is the largest department in the School of Communication, Media and the Arts, serving approximately 830 majors with 43  full and part-time faculty. The department offers majors in public relations, broadcasting, communication studies and social interaction, and journalism. We also offer an online degree completion program in Broadcasting and Mass Communication and a graduate certificate program in Integrated Media.
