Program Overview:

Campus Recreation is a division of the Department of Campus Life. The staff and students of Campus Recreation coordinate intramural sports and open recreation programs that provide students, faculty and staff with opportunities to participate in formal and informal activities designed to promote health and wellness. Available services include facility reservations and general assistance to sport clubs. Lee Hall, the campus recreation center, provides the following services and amenities: multi-purpose gymnasium, swimming pool, dance room, martial arts room, squash court, racquetball court, men's and women's locker rooms, sports equipment checkout, internet kiosks, and swim lessons. Other facilities managed by Campus Recreation include outdoor tennis courts, six general-purpose intramural fields, two softball fields, and an auxiliary gym.

Responsibilities:

The Coordinator of Campus Recreation for Facility Operations and Informal Recreation will supervise facility operations, informal recreation programs, and special events in all campus recreation facilities.  The Coordinator will oversee all front desk operations; administer building policies and procedures; coordinate facility reservation process; compile facility reports and participation counts; conduct monthly inspections of indoor and outdoor facilities; enforce informal recreation policies and mediate participant issues; recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned student staff; conduct training sessions in CPR, First Aid, and customer service; assist with the coordination of College-wide special events; assist with all aspects of public relations for Campus Recreation programs; and participate in College, divisional, and department committees as assigned.

This is a full-time, 10-month professional staff position reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation. Employment obligation will run from July 1 through December 15 and January 15 through May 31. Work hours will be 2pm to 11pm Monday through Friday and some weekend hours as needed. Job responsibilities require the ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of campus constituents and the ability to perform independently. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2012. Starting salary is $29,000 plus $478 inconvenience pay. Excellent fringe benefits include a retirement plan, medical, vision, and dental plans.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include an earned Bachelor's degree; experience in one or more of the following areas-coordinating events, supervising and training staff, and providing quality customer service; and computer skills including the general use of word-processing, spreadsheet, email, and Web browser software.

Desired qualifications include experience working in collegiate recreation facilities, coordination of collegiate recreation programs, policy development, public relations, and leadership development; American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification and/or instructor or other CPR/AED certification; and excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral/written communication skills.
