Assistant Professor of Literacy Education

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Literacy Education.

Salary:  Commensurate with rank and experience.

Date of Appointment:  Fall 2012

Description of Responsibilities:  Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate reading/literacy courses, program development, academic advisement and committee work, and the possibility of student teacher supervision.  Programmatic needs include expertise in literacy foundations, strength in literacy research, and evaluation of readers/writers for effective literacy instruction.  Both critical literacy teaching for equity and social justice and commitment to community involvement undergird our programs.

Required Qualifications:  ABD with completion of degree in Literacy within two years of appointment; classroom teaching experience, and commitment to promote all students' ability to succeed in a multicultural and global community.  

Preferred Qualifications:  Doctorate in Literacy Education.  In addition, a candidate's professional emphasis on teaching for social justice, interdisciplinary instruction, and the integration of technology in teaching and learning are highly desirable.
