Assistant Professor - Mental Health Counseling

The Department of Counseling & Psychological Services at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Mental Health Counseling.

Review Date:  Review of applications will begin October 15 and will continue until the position is filled. 

Salary:  Commensurate with rank and experience.

Date of Appointment: August 2013

Description of Responsibilities: Teach graduate classes in a Mental Health Counselor preparation program. Responsibilities include teaching counseling core courses such as vocational development, appraisal, group methods, counselor orientation, family systems, and practicum/internship; scholarly activity; advisement; university and professional service.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Doctorate or ABD in counseling related field
  • Familiarity with CACREP and willingness to help Department achieve accreditation
  • Ability to address issues of diversity in the provision of mental health counseling services
  • Primary identification as a counselor educator

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctorate
  • Experience or certification as a school counselor
  • Membership in and experience with professional organizations at the state and national level
  • Experience teaching in a college setting

Description of Department: The CPS Department is housed within the NCATE-accredited School of Education and prepares graduate level students in one of three programs. The Mental Health Counseling Program prepares students to work in agency settings and leads toward New York State Licensure as a Mental Health Counselor. The Counseling Services Program primarily prepares students to work as school counselors. The School Psychology Program is nationally accredited and prepares school psychologists. The CPS Department has a long-standing reputation for developing high caliber professionals in these areas.
