International Student Services Specialist

The Office of International Education and Programs at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for the position of International Student Services Specialist.

Review Date:  Review of applications will begin November 10th and will continue until the position is filled. 

Salary:  Commensurate with experience

Date of Appointment:  Approximately January 25, 2010 

Description of Responsibilities:  The International Student Services Specialist will contribute broadly to SUNY Oswego’s international student services.  Reporting to the Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services, the individual will have particular responsibilities for international student recruitment and the administration of the English for Academic Purposes Program and the Summer Intensive English Program in collaboration with the Office of Extended Learning.  He/She will also provide academic advising, new student orientation, and housing placement assistance for both the Summer Intensive English Program and for incoming degree seeking and exchange students to SUNY Oswego.  The individual is expected to engage regularly in overseas recruitment travel and other activities to bring increasing numbers of international students to SUNY Oswego.  The candidate may also teach courses in English as a second language.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Demonstrated international work, study, or related experience
  3. Demonstrated effective communication skills
  4. Effective organization and administration skills in a college setting
  5. Ability to relate to students and colleagues with intercultural skills
  6. Demonstrated interest in and commitment to international education

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in a discipline appropriate to international education
  2. Experience advising international students and knowledge of immigration regulations and SEVIS

Description of Department:  The Office of International Education and Programs (OIEP) is primarily responsible for study abroad and international student services.  In collaboration with other offices on campus it supports international activities of university’s academic departments and encourages the study of foreign languages and cultures.  It promotes the internationalization of the curriculum and campus cultural life and works to increase the number of international students attending Oswego and the number of Oswego students studying abroad.  OIEP is recognized as one of the top international programs in SUNY.
