Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering

The State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Electrical and Computer Engineering. 

Review Date:  Review of applications will begin January 25, 2010 and will continue until the position is filled. 

Salary:  Commensurate with rank and experience.

Date of Appointment: August 2010 

Description of Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have a rare opportunity to actively contribute to the development of a new innovative project-based electrical and computer engineering program in collaboration with the director of engineering development and other SUNY Oswego faculty and administrators. 

Required Qualifications: PhD (or completion of PhD no later than end of fall semester 2010) in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, a demonstrated ability and a commitment to teaching in a diverse academic community, and research interests compatible with an undergraduate project-based teaching department.   

Preferred Qualifications: Desired area of expertise is in digital design with a demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses and labs in digital design and digital signal processing and/or communication systems. Experience in program, course, laboratory, or curriculum development, undergraduate student projects or research supervision, ABET accreditation, and the ability to teach a variety of ECE courses.

Description of Department:  The Computer Science Department is a highly progressive department with a vibrant and active faculty and students. We have ten full-time faculty and four part-time faculty. Our department currently offers a Computer Science degree, an Information Science degree, and a Software Engineering degree. We also jointly offer a Masters Program titled Human Computer Interaction with the department of Psychology with emphasis on both human factors and software engineering. We also participate in offering interdisciplinary programs in Cognitive Science and Linguistics. There are about two hundred students in these majors and another twenty in the minors offered by the department. We have four state of the art laboratories. Three of our labs have SUN workstations in them designed for doing software development. One room is dedicated to group projects and general student use. A 2nd lab is dedicated to laboratory instructions in support of our lower level computer science courses. The 3rd lab is designed for students involved in research with our faculty; they have their own personal space in that room in support of their projects. The 4th lab is a classroom/lab equipped with PCs which we use for teaching information science courses and lower division computer science courses where laboratory activity is integrated into the classroom. The Computer Science corridor is equipped with wireless access points so students can bring their laptops in and use them between and during their classes. Our classrooms and labs are right across the hall from our faculty offices designed intentionally to encourage more contact between students and faculty. The classrooms are all equipped with projectors, computers, sound systems, and Elmos to facilitate state of the art instruction.
