Campus Concept Committee
Meeting Minutes

September 13, 1999 12:40 p.m.

Provost’s Conference Room

1. Continued discussion of program study ideas for the student union/campus center.

  1. The campus is waiting for confirmation that it has a matching funds project.
  2. The first step will be to update the 1995 Program Study of Hewitt Union without the constraint of ‘staying within the envelope of the current building’ which will be part of the design contract
  3. A suggestion was made to include a gallery in the new building.
  4. The role of the committee was discussed, as it relates to this project and it was suggested we consider the question: What do we want this building to do for us?

2. Discussion of new proposals related to the Swetman/Poucher Program Study (refer to proposals submitted by Scharfenberger, Petrella, & Echelbarger/Chambers)

  1. The committee at the last meeting decided the spirit of the ideas for Swetman/Poucher contained in these proposals was included in the Program Study developed by the Campus Concept Committee for Swetman/Poucher.

3. Confirmation of a regular meeting time and place (Mondays at 12:40 compresses our meeting time, but do we have any options?)

  1. Mondays 12:40 p.m. – 1:35 p.m. in the Provost’s Conference rooms seems to be the plan.

4. Planning an open forum on campus to report on the Helpern Study

  1. The group decided on the following open forum schedule:
    • October 12, 1999 104 Lanigan 6:00 p.m. [Student Association Meeting]
    • October 14, 1999 Bell Auditorium 4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
    • October 25, 1999 102 Lanigan 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. [General Faculty Meeting]
  2. Two (2) Flyers would be distributed notifying the campus community of the dates and times of the open forums. In addition, student notes would be issued which would contain times and locations for open forums.
  3. There are a limited number of copies of the Final Report of the Halpern Study.

5.  Updates from Jerry DeSantis and other members of the committee

  1. No news at this time

6. Determination of vacancies on the CCC which need to be filled by FA elections.

  1. David King reviewed with the group terms of office and vacancies and indicated CCC members would probably be elected at the Faculty Assembly meeting September 26, 1999.

7. At the next meeting the committee decided to set aside some time to discuss the Arts and Sciences proposal from Sara Varhus.
