Submitted by David Hill
1) Updates a) Steel for the Campus Center will begin to arrive next week; the frameword construction will take a couple of months b) The bid for Mahar Hall windows came in under bid; the project will be done over the next two summers c) Design and configuration plans for the interim Park and Wilber work are nearing completion—specifically the Dean’s suite in Wilber and the move for the graphics lab to Lanigan d) CELT should be moving in the next week or so e) Sheldon and Poucher are well into the construction phase f) There has been a successful bid on Swetman West; exterior construction begins this summer, with interior work to begin January 2006; there will be phased relocations beginning in summer and running through to the final clear-out in January. No classes will be scheduled in the building after this term.
2) Library Visioning Committee The President will convene a committee with the tentative charge to study and explore the nature of libraries in the 21st century. A second group will construct a program plan for this vision the first group will produce. The first group will take about a year to complete its work; the second group will begin to act then—funding for changes will be available in a couple of years.
3) Science Planning Group The group is addressing goals 1 and 2 of the Kaleidoscope project—1) a culture of undergraduate research, 2) fostering of interdisciplinary interactions among students and faculty. Timelines: First, define clusters (Molecular Biology/Biochemistry cluster beginning as a pilot project this fall—lab equipment and faculty offices being concentrated in a space in Snygg). Second, prioritize projects and initiate a program study (Fall 05-Jan 06), The program study should take a year or two, with three or four years until construction, although other pilot projects may be undertaken before that time.
4) Calendar: April 13: International Ed; April 27: Discuss science proposal, CCIT design. Perhaps a meeting May 13?
