Updates Phase 2 of the campus repair projects (Piez, Tyler, and so on) will go into design this summer for construction to be scheduled later.
The support package for the Day Care Center in Sheldon remains on hold.
The Sheldon project will go forawrd, into design for the whole west wing (Level 1: day care; level 2: surge space; level 3: International Ed and some surge space. Preliminary costing for the project is underay. There are some questions about the historic preservation aspects of the project.
Item 1: Swetman Poucher The proposed framework was examined.
The Academic Programs subocommittee reported agreemenmt about "stacking" classrooms in Poucher. The agreement was to concentrate classrooms in the northeast quadrant of the building, with one classroom across the hall on the West side of the building (a map was distributed).
The problems that may arise in the Poucher HVAC retrofit raised questions about the need to provide first-rate spaces with high-quality air flow, heating, and cooling in the instructional spaces in that part of the complex. There was concern that instruction might not get the quality of treatment available for other functions. First-rate spaces were agreed upon as the goal.
The desired programming fit into the building, even with the inclusion of some student center functions, with the exception of some limitations on the spaces requested by the Office of Learning Services (OLS).
The tentative timeline The phasing that seems to be likely to work best is as follows:
- Renovate Sheldon for surge space
- Renovate Poucher and the east end of Swetman
- Renovate the west end of Swetman
Next meeting: March 10
Possible agenda items:
- Meeting with Kevin Mahahney
- Review phasing plans
- Review the Sheldon project
- Introduction of the next planning goal--the Natural Sciences project
