Minutes of Campus Concept Committee March 4, 2002
Present: J. Scharfenberger, J. DeSantis, C. Hebblethwaite, C. Kaus, C. Graci, W. Whitfield, G. Lawson, D. Hill, D. King, D. Thomas, S. Varhus, C. Walpole
D. King called the meeting to order.
J. DeSantis reported there was nothing new.
D. King spoke about the corrected version of the Campus Concept resolution that would accept the program study but shows our concerns.
C. Graci said that we should compare our mission statement to the study, he feels the mission statement does not mention "ice" as the focus of the campus center. Copies of the mission statement were handed out. Discussion ensued. It was decided to start the acceptance memo with a referral to the member item which appropriated the funds for the center. Changes were also made in #'s 3 & 4. Passed.
S. Varhus presented her mission statement for the Sciences & Math Program Study. She stated that we are getting to a critical time, Piez is poorly configured and dilapidated and Snygg is in need of upgrading. She also stressed that the departments have been talking for quite a few years about updating and their changing needs. D. Thomas added his concerns and pointed out that we are in need of a new science building, that we are behind the national trend. More discussion followed. J. DeSantis will get out and talk to the chairs of these departments to make sure we are all going in the right direction and that he may be able to help with funding. We will visit this item again next week.
Next meeting 3/11 at 12:40pm in 702 Culkin Hall.
