Minutes of Campus Concept Committee February 25, 2002
Present: J. Scharfenberger, I. Barros, J. DeSantis, C. Hebblethwaite, C. Kaus, C. Graci, W. Whitfield, S. Camp, G. Lawson, D. Hill, D. King, D. Thomas, C. Walpole, M. Flaherty, and S. Varhus.
David King called the meeting to order.
J DeSantis reported that the weather is helping construction proceed at Johnson and Rich Halls. Cannon has presented the Campus Center Program Study to SUNY Construction Fund. If approved Cannon will proceed into the Design phase.
Discussion ensued on the Draft resolution regarding the Program Study for the Campus Center. Several firm recommendations were made for changes in the draft.
Draft resolution on Cannon's Program Study for the Campus Center
The committee accepted the Cannon Campus Center Program Study with the following reservations and clarifications.
- add pedestrian
Concern regarding the exterior pedestrian flow along the spinge pathway, spcifically, a. location of auditorium/lecture hall b. location of the retail space
- add vehicular and pedestrian
Concern regarding traffic flow specifically, a. Increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Centennial Drive b. Location of and traffic around loading dock
- clarification
A shared meeting/seminar room be designated for Honors Program, CELT and Interdisciplinary Programs (rather than a classroom)
- Rewording
The planned seating capacity and configuration of the food court in the Campus Center must conveniently accommodate future campus needs for a central eating facility, given the planned elimination of the Forum and the Junction.
Sara passed out a copy of a news article concerning $56 million science building at Hamilton College. Next meeting is March 4 at 12:40 p.m. 702 Culkin Hall
