Subject: Minutes from February 4

  1. Membership and meeting times
    • Absences suggest we may need to rethink meeting times; all members of CCC should email the times they are NOT available to vtodd@oswego.edu
    • Discussion arose around need for replacements, if only for a semester, of those with schedules that conflict with set meeting times.
  2. Updates on projects
    • Renovations have been completed on two classrooms (Mahar 122 and 201) The suggestion was made that we need a more comprehensive plan for rehabs. Point was made that east campus has been frozen out of these improvements; some departments are stymied in attempts to develop new pedagogies.
    • An architect has been hired for phase one of the academic improvements projects (work in Mahar, Penfield, and Snygg, including the Computer Science corridor.
    • Rich and Johnson Hall projects are on schedule. Rich completion: F 2003; Johnson F 2004.
  3. Cannon Architects program study and drawing for Campus Center
    • Both the Campus Center and Swetman-Poucher program studies are complete. Campus Center is scheduled to be occupied in Fall 2005.
    • The "hybrid" design, combining elements from the Fall 2001 A and B plans, was distributed, including the program-study "zoning" for Swetman-Poucher.
      • From now on, both projects will appear together in our documents and discussions. These are NOT floor plans, but configuration and zoning studies for the buildings.
    • Phasing needs to be thought through. Preliminary thinking is
      • move School of Ed to partially renovated Wilber-Park complex,
      • Move remaining Swetman areas to Poucher, perhaps with some first-stage renovation.
      • Build out the west side of Swetman.
      • Complete build-out of the spaces in the east side of Swetman, in Poucher, and in Wilber and Park. The first step will need to be to bring all planning up to the schematic level to permit the building infrastructure work to be done first.
      • DISCUSSION: Renovation may be in two phases, but groups will be moved to quality spaces. Need to maintain an adequate level of quality instructional space on a
semester-by-semester basis. One goal of first importance should be minimal disruption of instruction (See 2a)
    • Step-by-step discussion:
Site plan: Service area will be north of building. Will that force the retention of Centennial, with its disastrous effects on the pedestrian spine and continuation of traffic difficulties? There is a need to address the issue of Centennial now, before other plans lock us into continuation of a very unsatisfactory situation. Will the entry from the north funnel people back to a dumpster-scape? Will the needs for Lanigan-Mahar-Penfield parking be addressed?
    • The Campus Center project needs to be coordinated with the capital campaign. Kevin Mahaney needs to be part of the CCC discussion to gather our input on the importance of the project.
  4. Strategies for communicating information about Campus Center and Swetman/Poucher program studies. DEFERRED UNTIL NEXT MEETING.

NEXT MEETING : February 11. 2002. 12:40 in Provost's Conference Room.
