Campus Concept Committee Meeting minutes for 5/05/98
Continuing review of response summaries:
question 7: What alternatives to present classrooms, lounges, and conference spaces would have a positive effect on good teaching and learning? THEMES - 1) Departments have a need for separate dedicated space for scheduled activities and informal unscheduled uses.
question 11: What types of physical spaces would facilitate personal and collaborative research and scholarly opportunities?
THEMES - 1) Research spaces should include both flexible, interdiciplinary, collaborative spaces and specifically designed discipline oriented research and activity spaces. 2) Collaborative research space should be available for interest groups and external groups as well as academic use.
Question 12: What other comment do you have? 1) Technological capability for distance learning is important but is not a significant issue in campus design layout.
The group discussed a memorandum from Linda Markert dated 4/27/98 on the School of education ideas on campus concept. This memo represents important input into a future stage of the process. Once the planning consultant is onboard we will need to consider similar input from all academic divisions. This document will be a good example of the level of detail required at that time.
