Campus Concept Committee Meeting
February 21, 2008
Room 134 Campus Center
Attendees: Rameen Mohammadi, Casey Raymond, Andy Westfall, Susan Camp,
Jerry DeSantis, Todd Graber, Tim Farnsworth, Tim Braun, Matt Spindler, Nancy
Bellow, Joe Moreau, David Hill, Mike Flaherty, John Huonker, Kelly Roe
1. The group welcomed Todd Graber to the committee he is replacing
Fritz Messere.
2. Project Updates:
2.1
The School of Education program study is in draft form and will be finalized
soon. Money is in the new capital plan for design. Susan thought we
should get a vision/mission statement for the School of Education.
2.2
Romney field house is being reviewed as a house for indoor practice fields for
all athletic teams and an indoor track for all members of the campus
community. Facilities is also looking at converting the athletic field
east or Romney to an all weather field.
2.3
The sustainability mission statement has been shared with Faculty Assembly and
the President.
3. The consensus of the group was to include Penfield Library in the
Hewitt Quad planning. The group designated several groups (below) to come
up with project related visions statements similar to the example handed out
from the sciences.
3.1
Groups:
3.1.1 School of Communication, Media and the Arts, including
affiliated interdisciplinary programs and Campus Technology Services.
3.1.2 Social and Behavioral Sciences, Human Computer Interaction,
History and Counseling and Psychological Services.
3.1.3 Penfield Library.
3.1.4 Auxiliary Services
3.1.5 Campus Technology Services
The focus should be what these groups want to do, and where do they want to
be. In other words “think buildingless”. Based on the experience of
the sciences it usually takes approximately 8 – 10 years from the beginning of
planning to ribbon cutting.
Susan has invited interim Dean Fritz Messere and colleagues to attend the
March 6th meeting and interim Dena Rhonda Mandel and colleagues to
attend the April 3rd meeting to update the committee on their
planning.
Once these plans have been received the Campus Concept Committee would
review them and write a vision/mission statement for the Hewitt Quad.
4. Joe Moreau shared information on an upcoming program from the
Society for College and University Planning webcast on the future trends in
higher education and indicted he was willing to fund the program if members
were interested in attending. Members should review their schedules for
March 4th at 2:00 p.m. and e-mail Joe if they are able to
attend.
