Discussion continued on draft vision and mission statements:
Vision:
We are engaged in and committed to meeting the needs of the present
generation without compromising the ability of future generation to meet their
own needs.
This was adapted from the United Nations Brundtland Commission Report.
Mission:
We are committed to leadership in making SUNY Oswego an educational
community dedicated to ecological, social and economic sustainability and being
a model for the region and beyond. We will accomplish this by:
● Making climate neutrality and sustainability an integral part of the
curriculum and other educational experiences for the campus. [Nancy was
going to work on wording for “other educational experiences” from the
Sesquicentennial Plan]
● Measure, evaluate and communicate our environmental impact.
● Developing and offering community programs that will increase the
communities awareness of sustainability options.
● Research, develop and implement strategies to improve our
sustainability.
● Engage other institutions and organizations in this initiative.
The above was agreed to as a draft. The question remained as to
whether we needed a name for this initiative.
Susan Camp agreed to poll the members of the committee for a convenient
meeting for the spring semester.
