Faculty Grants

Faculty grants for scholarly and creative activity and course innovation are distributed annually in a competitive review of proposals submitted by faculty from across the university.
Grant programs support a broad range of projects including:

  • Research,
  • Creative work in the Arts,
  • Development of new academic programs,
  • Course development.

Depending on the program, funding may be used for:

  • Supplies and equipment,
  • Student assistants,
  • Services
  • Travel.

Program eligibility and funding details are described below for each program.

Reports by faculty grant winners are required for the following programs: Faculty SCAC grants, Student-Faculty Collaborative Challenge Grants; Summer Scholars Program. NEW - Early Start Program (ESP)

DEADLINE: Second Monday in May
This program is designed to provide support for newly-appointed first year tenure-track or tenured faculty in their research or creative activity programs by granting a summer stipend to those faculty who choose to come to the SUNY Oswego campus significantly prior to the start of the academic year. Only those scholarly and creative projects that have the hiring Chair's support and will culminate in extramural grant applications will be supported.

NEW - Faculty Mini Grant (FMG) Program

DEADLINE: By the end of any given month.
This program is designed to provide support for faculty in their research or creative activity programs by granting small start-up funds for new creative projects that might lead to larger grants as well as publications, presentation, and performances.

Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity (SCAC) Grants

DEADLINE: Fourth Monday in October and second Monday in February.
This program is designed to provide support for faculty and staff in the development of their research or creative activity programs. Projects that are expected to result in peer-review output or to have significant impact on local/campus community will get priority.

President's Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity

DEADLINE: Second Monday in February, annually.
The President's Award, in the amount of $1,000, shall be given annually by the President of SUNY-Oswego to a member or members of the full-time faculty and staff on continuing appointment and with a minimum of seven years of service at Oswego. This award, which is designed as a recognition of a career of significant accomplishment in scholarly or creative activity, may be received only once.

Provost's Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity

DEADLINE: Second Monday in February, annually.
The Provost's Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity, in the amount of $500, shall be given annually by the Provost of SUNY-Oswego to a junior member or members of the full-time faculty and staff on term appointment and with a minimum of two years and no more than seven years of service at the Oswego campus. This award, which is designed as a recognition of significant accomplishment in scholarly or creative activity, may be received only once.

Student / Faculty Collaborative Challenge (SFCC) Grants

DEADLINE: Second Monday in February, annually.
The purpose of the Challenge Award program is to promote and support true student/faculty scholarly collaboration. It is not the goal of the program to fund research assistants, but rather to assist faculty in providing motivated students, particularly undergraduates, with graduate-level scholarly and creative experiences. Successful applicants will be engaged in an ongoing project with one or more students who participate in a direct and meaningful way in every stage of the project from initial conception to dissemination of results. As a condition of this award, results must be submitted to a national or regional conference and presented at QUEST.

Summer Scholars Program (SSP)

DEADLINE: Second Monday in February, annually.
This program is designed to provide support for faculty in their ongoing research or creative activity programs by granting stipends to student assistants. Scholarly and creative projects that will culminate in peer-reviewed output or be presented to a public audience will get priority. Funding for the Summer Scholars Program is made possible by the generous support of donors to the Annual Fund for SUNY Oswego.

Curriculum Innovation (CIG) Grants

DEADLINE: first Monday in March.
This program supports the creation of new courses needed to keep our disciplinary, interdisciplinary and general education programs current in content, quality, and delivery. In addition to proposals for courses that serve to enhance the overall quality of curricula, those which address either the college's commitment to expanding student knowledge and skills related to international and intercultural issues, or the urgent need to develop student knowledge and skills related to sustainability are particularly sought.

Rice Creek Field Station Small Grants Program

RCFS
is a unit of SUNY Oswego dedicated to the support of academic instruction, research and public service, especially in the natural sciences and environmental education. The mission of Rice Creek Associates is to support the educational, research and service aims of RCFS.
