First Year Advisement First Year Advisement is a program for all first year students! Each first year student is assigned a faculty advisor that is specially trained to support student success. First Year students are required to meet with their First Year Faculty Advisors at least 3 times during the fall semester and 2 times during the spring semester. First Year Advisors also work with a student called a Peer Advisor who assists them by contacting their advisees regularly to check on their progress and answer any question they might have.
First Year Faculty Advisors have smaller advisement ‘loads,’ working with approximately 25 first year students. This allows them to provide individual attention on an on-going basis to entering students.
FirstChoice FirstChoice is part of the comprehensive First Year Experience here at SUNY Oswego. FirstChoice is a group of courses offered to all First Year Students. Each encourages active participation both inside and outside of class. Options within FirstChoice include Sheldon Leaders, Champs/Life Skills, Honors Program, Preceptor Program, Service Learning, Gateway Courses as well as Living and Learning Communities.
