Special Olympics is an international organization that is dedicated to helping children and adults with intellectual disabilities become physically fit and respected members of the community through the use of sports and competitions. Nearly 40,000 adults and children from New York participate in Special Olympics competitions. SUNY Oswego has a long history with the New York Special Olympics. Each year over 120 students volunteer at the Bowling Competition (Fall semester) and the Aquatics & Basketball Competition (Spring semester).
