Service learning can be integrated into your course in two different ways.  One way is to require that all students in the course participate in service learning.  For instance, selected English 102 courses or Communications 490 where all students work with a community agency.  The second way is to give students the option to take service learning in conjunction with the course.  GST 302 service learning is a 1-credit course that the student takes in conjunction with the course.  Students enrolled in GST 302-service learning would provide a minimum of 20 hours of service to the community to connect classroom material to real life experiences.  Examples of courses that offer this type of service learning is Human Development 120, where students are placed in local nursing homes and upper division Spanish classes, where students tutor Spanish speaking migrant workers.
