Leighton Elementary needs volunteers for their after school homework club. Volunteers will be facilitating an after school homework club for fourth through sixth grade. Volunteers will attend sessions Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday after school from 3:30-4:30 each week to help children with subjects they are struggling in while providing positive influences and encouragement. The Red Cross Club of SUNY Oswego is currently participating in “Adopt A Platoon.” This is an initiative in which various items are collected and sent to troops abroad. If you are interested in donating, please send emails to redcross@oswego.edu or come to 142 Campus Center to see the list. Items can be dropped off at the Center for Service Learning and Community Service at 142 Campus Center.

Oswego S.D. Public Library is looking for volunteers for shelf reading at the library. The library needs help shelf reading books in adult and children's areas. Job requires volunteer to arrange books on shelf by either Dewey decimal for non-fiction or alphabetically by the author's last name. As books are reviewed they should also be straightened on the shelves. Volunteers are needed on a flexible basis based on library hours (Mon.-Thurs. 10am-8pm Fri. 10am-5 and Sat. & Sun. 12-5pm). Weekend Yard Work Friday 11/20 2-6pm and Saturday 11/21 12-6pm Spend Friday and/or Saturday helping various homes in the west side neighborhoods of Oswego. Outpouring Church has designed a program to lend a helping hand to the elderly and other people to get their yard work done before winter. Volunteers will be raking and bagging leaves in people’s yards, as well as some roof gutter cleaning. Equipment will be provided. Volunteers can sign up for an hour or more in any of the time slots listed. Walk the Toilet Talk The Lifestyles Center is looking for volunteers to distribute Toilet Talk around the SUNY Oswego campus. Volunteer opportunities are available every Friday at the Lifestyles Center in the Mary Walker Health Center. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Sunday November 22nd from 12pm-8pm @ Steamers Bring a toy donation and come out to enjoy food and drink specials and a 50-50 raffle. New, unwrapped, non-violent toys are needed for boys and girls ages 0-3, 4-7, 8-11, 12-15. A portion of the day’s proceeds will be donated by GS Steamers to help the Marines buy more gifts!
Desire to Inspire Alpha Phi Omega is looking for volunteers to participate in a mentoring program with 8th and 9th grade students from the Oswego City School district. This would involve writing letters to these students about overcoming adversity, and then participating in the Desire to Inspire hockey game where the students would attend a Men’s Varsity hockey game with you. Mentor at Mexico Elementary School AmeriCorps members Elizabeth DeFalco and Morgan Mears are looking for 5-10 volunteers to mentor children in Mexico Elementary an hour per week with children's reading, writing or math groups.
