Loretto Heights Nursing Home is looking for volunteers to staff their reception desk. Volunteers are needed from 4-8pm on flexible days. Volunteers will help sign visitors and volunteers in/out and also may visit with passing residents. A local elderly Oswego resident named “Bob” is looking for help around his house. He is looking for college students to help him become acquainted with his computer as well as help around the house with such activities such as: changing lightbulbs, shoveling 10 yard sidewalk, washing windows and moving boxes. The Red Cross Club of SUNY Oswego is currently participating in “Adopt A Platoon.” This is an initiative in which various items are collected and sent to troops abroad. Oswego S.D. Public Library is looking for volunteers for shelf reading at the library. The library needs help shelf reading books in adult and children's areas. Job requires volunteer to arrange books on shelf by either Dewey decimal for non-fiction or alphabetically by the author's last name. As books are reviewed they should also be straightened on the shelves. Volunteers are needed on a flexible basis based on library hours (Mon.-Thurs. 10am-8pm Fri. 10am-5 and Sat. & Sun. 12-5pm). USOswego Nightclub sponsored by RSVP is looking for volunteers for a variety of dance programs and events coming up. Volunteers are needed to help on "Big Band Night" with a 17 piece orchestra at the Oswego Elks Club on the third Thursday of each month from 5-9 pm Volunteers should arrive between 4:30 and 5pm and will take the free dance lessons, become dance partners, mingle with seniors. We also need ushers to guide people to tables and help at the entrance table. . This is a very popular event that always has a good turnout and lots of fun!! Girl Scouts (Seven Lakes Council) is looking for 2-3 students interested in offering leadership to elementary or middle school aged girls in an after school setting. The group will be exploring a science and technology theme. This would be a 6 week (one day a week) commitment, and would be a great volunteer project for female students to serve as role models. This project would take place sometime from the end of March into April. Transportation is required, as Red Creek-Fair Haven is approximately 5-10 miles west of Oswego. Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County is looking for volunteers to research, plan, and possibly facilitate basic financial and health literacy workshops for adults. Do you like kids? Will you be here this summer? Do you want a free YMCA gym membership? Volunteer at the Advantage After School program at the Oswego YMCA! The program will run Monday-Friday from 2:45-5:45pm, and focuses on helping students with homework, projects, and studying. Days are flexible. Students attending will be middle and high school students from 13-18 years of age. Any person who volunteers at least four or more hours per week will receive a free YMCA working membership for the time they are involved in the program.
