Americorps*VISTA Position SUNY Oswego
One-year Americorps*VISTA position. The program is a full-time, year long commitment from July 2008-July 2009
Responsibilities: (1) expand services to the community by meeting with current and newly identified community organizations to access potential partnerships
(2) recruit, train and supervise student site coordinators and provide training, supervision, leadership development, site visits and systematic evaluation
(3) create and manage a Service Learning Advisory Board and work with other committees such as Compass and Civic Engagement Committee to develop and expand program
(4) educate the campus about opportunities to engage in service opportunities utilizing multiple platforms to disseminate information throughout campus
(5) work with low-income communities to identify unmet needs that can addressed by SUNY Oswego students, faculty and staff
Qualifications: (1) Bachelor’s degree (2) interest in serving low-income communities (3) ability to work with a diverse population (4) interest and experience in service learning, community service and civic engagement (5) solid writing, communication and computer skills; ability to self-direct; initiative
Salary & Benefits: Housing on campus (Included: All Utilities, Cable/Internet) Monthly living allowance (approximately $840/mo or $10,084/year) Health coverage through AmeriCorps Post-service or education award ($4,725) Training, child care assistance, and moving allowance available Forbearance of school loans with interest accrual payment
