Rice Creek Field Station Special Collections

Special Collections

The herbarium at the field station consists of over 2,500 sheets representing general collections from the northeastern United States including vouchers for 492 of the 724 species of bryophytes and vascular plants which have been recorded from the field station properties as of November 2007.

The ornithological collection has over 1,900 skins representing about 200 species and the mammal skin collection has over 1,200 specimens of about 150 species. Fish, amphibian, reptile and insect collections represent many local species. Work has been initiated to develop computer databases to record the contents of these collections and to develop species lists and other records concerning the flora and fauna of the field station properties.
