Bird Banding at Rice Creek Field Station
Bird Banding at SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station has been a regular fall, spring and occasional summer event since the fall of 2007. Master bird bander Jim Keefer, a SUNY Oswego alumnus, volunteers to conduct this bird population ecology research and teach others about resident and migrating birds in our area. Visitors are welcome to observe and encouraged to help with the banding, often having hands-on experience with the birds during the process.

The banding schedule varies due to weather, bird habits and Jim’s activities. As of October 2011, over 1000 birds have been banded at Rice Creek since the fall of 2007.
