Fungi of Rice Creek Field Station

Rice Creek Field Station’s varied habitats provide a wealth of possibilities for the mushroom hunter. The list that follows is based on observations made between 2002 and 2005. The spore producing structures of some species reappear in the same area with some consistency year after year. Others appear only when their particular requirements of temperature and moisture are met. A few that grow on wood chips used to mulch landscape plantings and trails may represent one time occurrences that will never be repeated. The current list contains 14 Ascomycetes and 47 Basidiomycetes.
