Early Alert Procedures for First Year Advisors

A Guide for First Year Advisors to help students at risk academically.

The Retention Steering Committee was formed in 2008 to focus on the long term success and persistence of our students.  It is the belief of the committee that students who have potential to be at academic risk must be identified early during the fall semester and offered  resources and support.  Students with poor midterm grades in the fall of their first year and students who are on academic warning after their first semester will be targeted for early interventions.  The committee has made a midterm plan that consists of the following procedures:

  • FirstChoice Instructors and a select group of courses with a high concentration of First Year Students such as ENG 102, MAT 102, PSY 100, CSC 101/102, CHE 209, and ECO 101 will post mid-term grades no later than October 18 2011 at 11pm.
  • Advisors can download their advisees' mid-term grades from myOswego
