First Year Select is a program that assists first year students in maximizing their performance in the classroom and providing an opportunity to bond with fellow first year students in a supportive environment. Students required to be part of a First Year Select learning community are also assigned an Academic Planning Counselor through the Office of Learning Services.

Through First Year Select, students enroll in a block of courses designed for Business, Sciences, Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education majors. Each block consists of a minimum of 4 courses where 19 students are commonly enrolled. Students spend time with peers in the classroom, outside study groups, and attend social activities such as plays, concerts and cultural events.
