FirstChoice 2008
Making your FirstChoice Selection

May 1, 2008-June 6, 2008

While there are over 80 FirstChoice courses to choose from, not all FirstChoice courses are appropriate or available for every student.  The link in myOswego will guide you through the process based on information you provided on your application.

Information we should already know include your major, an interest in one of our special programs (Honors, living and learning communities, intercollegiate sports) or participation in the program through Office of Learning Services.  If you follow the steps outlined and answer the questions accurately you will be pre-registered for the best course for you!

1.            Log in to myOswego
2.            Click SIGN IN and enter your  9-digit College ID number
3.            Click on New Student Menu
4.            Click on FirstChoice - First Year Student Pre-registration menu item.

*If you have chosen one of the Living and Learning Communities during the housing selection process, you should immediately be informed that you have already completed the process and will be shown the Living and Learning Community that you are enrolled in.  If you do not get a message, please choose the Living and Learning Community again when offered that option.

5.            VERIFY YOUR MAJOR*

Make sure your major is correct as this triggers many processes, including the assignment of your First Year Advisor.  If your major is incorrect, DO NOT continue*.  You will be given directions to request a change in major online or you can call Admissions at 315-312-2250.  It can take 3-5 business days to process the major change so check the site periodically.  Please do not continue until the correct major appears.  Once the change is made you can complete this process.

*If you change your major after completing this process and the FirstChoice course you selected is inappropriate for the new major, the Coordinator of First Year Programs will try to make the necessary adjustments.

6.            CHOOSING YOUR COURSE:

Read them carefully!  Once you submit you will need to wait until Orientation to make changes.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

If you are a part of FIRST YEAR SELECT, HONORS, or CHAMPS/Life Skills you will get a message letting you know that you will be pre-registered for the appropriate course(s) affiliated with that program.

MAJORS WITH REQUIRED COURSES - GATEWAY COURSES

If your major has a required course you will get a message informing you that you will be pre-registered for the required course.

MAJORS WITH FIRST YEAR LIVING AND LEARNING COMMUNITIES

If there is a Living and learning Community specifically for your major and there are seats left, you will be offered that as an option as well.

UNDECLARED MAJORS AND MAJORS WITHOUT SPECIFIC GATEWAY COURSES

If you are undeclared or in a major that does not have a required FirstChoice course you will be given a list of PRECEPTORS, SPECIAL INTEREST ELECTIVES, and SERVICE LEARNING courses to choose from.

7.            Prior to Orientation, you will also be assigned additional courses that will satisfy your General Education requirements.  You will be informed of the additional courses you were assigned at Summer Orientation by your summer advisor.  During orientation, you will meet with a summer advisor, review your schedule, select additional courses, and make changes if necessary.
